Schweinsteiger's behaviour has been condemned by the German media, but he has received the backing of his club.

"For a man with such a sporting curriculum to be derided as a 'small chief' and discredited in this way is unacceptable and it is a cheek,'' said Bayern's chairman Karl-Heinz Rummenigge.
