Chicago Bears tried to trade for the San Francisco 49ers safety Taylor Mays, but the agreement is now a "dead issue", sources said Friday.

Looking for depth at linebacker and on special teams, the Bears probably would have moved Mays (6-foot-3, 230 pounds) from their usual place of safety for the linebacker 49 had agreed to the transaction.
